Criminal convictions guidance for potential volunteers
We are committed to safeguarding adults at risk and to ensuring equal opportunity to all potential volunteers. Information about criminal convictions is requested to assist the selection process and will be taken into account only when the conviction is considered relevant to the role applied for.
You have applied for a position that is defined as Regulated Activity under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007, as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Volunteer roles which have direct contact with our beneficiaries are not open to anyone who has been barred from work with adults at risk by the Disclosure and Barring Service.
It also falls within the position of an ‘excepted’ position under the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order (NI) 1979. This means that you must complete the attached form and answer the questions accurately. This information will be verified through an Access NI Enhanced Disclosure Check.
The information received will be treated confidentially and will be assessed alongside normal selection criteria to determine suitability for the role. After recruitment the information will be destroyed.
Applicants can also submit a separate statement of disclosure if they wish. This may include details such as the particular circumstances around the conviction(s); how circumstances may have changed; and what has been learnt from the experience.
Guidance notes on filtering
Filtering is the term given to the non-disclosure of information, which is considered to be old and minor on disclosure certificates. You do not need to give us details of any criminal history information that may be subject to filtering. Filtering rules are summarized below however if you need additional guidance on what you should disclose, you should seek advice from NIACRO.
